The biggest way to reverse the adverse changes to coral reefs is though education. Through films like Coral Reef Adventure and the activities featured here we can learn how our actions affect coral reefs so we can better protect them for the future.

THE EDUCATORS GUIDE

This guide features a variety of activities which are drawn from key topics presented in the film. Each activity contains detailed instructions, materials needed, and ways to extend the lesson.

ACTIVITY 1  REEF PARTNERS WANTED

Students will identify several reef partnerships anddescrip how the organisms help each other.

ACTIVITY 2  CAN'T STAND THE PRESSURE

Students will construct a device to experiment with pressure, density, floating and sinking, and will make observations of these phenomena.

ACTIVITY 3  CORAL REEF CAFE

Students will simulate a variety of methods with which defferent fishes on a reef feed. Lean how the size and shape ofa fish's mouth and teeth provide hints about what type of food it eats.

ACTIVITY 4  PROTECTING THE REEF IS MORE THAN JUST A GAME!

Students will understand that there are many actions, both positive and negative, that can affect the health of a coral reef.

ACTIVITY 5  THE SILT AND SEDIMENT OF IT ALL

Students will build an underwater habitat to observe the effects that sediment and other invironmental changes have on plant life growing in the habitat.

ACTIVITY 6  CAN YOU EAT A REEF?

ACTIVITY 1      SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIPS

Students will identify several reef partnershps and describe how organisms help each other.

ACTIVITY 2      CATCH A SNACK!

Students will construct a device to experiment with pressure, density, floating and sinking, and will make observations of these phenomena.
