There’s no time to rest in the IMAX film business.
After an incredible month filming humpback whales in Vava’u, Tonga, Director Greg MacGillivray and his wife Barbara have landed in Raja Ampat to scout for our next film. They will spend the next two weeks assimilating into the island culture by spending time with locals and participating in their traditions, such as the Raja Ampat Festival pictured above.
In an email from Barbara sent from the top of Mount Pindito, she said Wayag Island could be one of the most beautiful, hard to reach spots she has ever seen, which is saying something for a woman who has spent 35 years traveling to remote places, making films.
The island harbors a green turtle reserve, implemented by Kris Thebu and local rangers, to help monitor marine protected areas. These areas are sanctioned and patrolled by “The Monaco,” a boat donated by Prince Albert.
Stay tuned for more photos and stories from Greg and Barbara in Raja Ampat!
